About Vibiana

Vibiana was built in 1876 as the Cathedral of Saint Vibiana, serving as the cathedral of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Los Angeles for over a century. After sustaining damage in the 1994 Northridge earthquake, the building was decommissioned as a cathedral and slated for demolition. A preservation campaign led by the Los Angeles Conservancy saved the building, and it was eventually restored and reimagined as an event venue by developer Tom Gilmore, who played a central role in Downtown LA's revitalization. The restoration honored the cathedral's historic architecture while adding the modern infrastructure needed for contemporary events. Today, Vibiana stands as both a Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument and one of the most sought-after event venues in Southern California — a testament to the power of preservation and the enduring beauty of 19th-century architecture.

Setup & Logistics

Vibiana's events team manages vendor coordination with attention to the building's historic character. All equipment must be freestanding and self-contained — no adhesives, wall mounts, or modifications to the historic structure. We comply fully and bring equipment that is designed for this type of venue. For cathedral nave events, we position the booth along the side wall or in the rear of the space to maximize the arched ceiling backdrop. For courtyard events, we set up near the olive trees or bar area. Power access is available throughout the venue, and load-in is coordinated through the building's service entrance. We typically arrive 2 hours before guest arrival to allow for careful positioning and testing in the unique acoustic and lighting environment.
